First you call your grandmother "uneducated", then you say her advice and apply it to poor people. Kinda sounds like a different grandmother.
IMHO, this will bite him in the ass and he will lose the governor's race. If he attacked blacks or hispanics and not poor people, he would have gotten away with it in racist South Carolina, but since he went after poor people which includes many whites, he will be punished for it.
