There is no "Double Standard" or "Exception to the Rule"
I hear a lot of people use the term "double standard" to mean that one side gets an unfair advantage over another out of bias. The term itself is a myth. A standard can't be double unless there are two standards. It's the same thing with the phrase "exception to the rule." If there is a rule, there can't be an exception to it unless there is another rule. In short, there are no double standards or exceptions to rules, but there are standards to a double and rules to exceptions.
