While the US has fought a few good wars, we have also made a few mistakes and by mistakes I mean conscious efforts to create a bloodbath. While it's important to honor the dead from the good wars, it's almost as important to honor those who protested the wars.
During Vietnam we had the hippies and I believe their political pressure was enough to bring an early end to the war which would have lasted several more years. Not only would have been countless millions of more Vietnamese and Cambodian deaths, but 10,000's more American deaths. Thankfully the hippies saved their asses and we should be thankful for that even if they aren't going to get the praise they deserved.
Today we have Iraq and Afghanistan, the heroes at Code Pink and other anti-war groups are busy ending the war and hopefully those wars will die down before more slaughter happens. I think along side Memorial Day and Veterans Day we should have a separate specialday to honor the anti-war movement.
If it wasn't for the anti-war movement, more dead would have been mourned today than needed. Thank you for your service to this country!
